Trip Highlights – 5 Days Gorilla, Chimpanzee Tracking & Big 4 Safari

  • The Big 4
  • The Kazinga Channel
  • Chimpanzees
  • The Mountain Gorillas

Day 1: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

This morning we will start the chimpanzee tracking adventure by setting off from Kampala to the western region through Uganda’s beautiful green countryside to Queen Elizabeth National Park. This will include a lunch stop in Mbarara and thereafter we continue through the savannah grasslands with lots of banana plantations and several of local long horned Ankole cows indigenous to this part of the country.

Day 2: Game drives and boat safari

We will wake up very early and set off at 6:30am for a morning game drive with an aim of catching sight of the early risers in their natural habitat. We expect to see the Big 4; Elephants, Buffaloes, Lions, Leopards and bushbucks, kobs, giant forest hog, hyenas, waterbucks and many birds. And after lunch we will head to the jetty for an afternoon boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel that connects Lakes Edward and George. We expect to see number of animals along the bank and a variety of water birds.

Day 3: Morning Chimpanzee Tracking & Transfer to Bwindi Forest National Park

After an early morning breakfast, we will head out for Chimpanzee tracking in the forest located in the Kyambura Gorge in Queen Elizabeth National Park. After meeting the Chimpanzees we will get back to our lodge for an early lunch and thereafter proceed to Bwindi Forest National Park.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking & Community Walk

I always regard this day to be the biggest of all days in the safari. So, after breakfast we shall head out to the park headquarters where you will be briefed by one of the park staff and thereafter you will meet me with the lead guide who will take you into the forest to find the gorilla family that you will be allocated to. This may take between 2-7 hours round trip depending on how long the family you are trekking will have moved today from where it was last seen yesterday. Depending on how you feel, you may go out for an evening community walk through the villages very close to the forest.

Day 5: Depart Bwindi to Kampala

After breakfast, we will depart Bwindi for Kampala with a lunch stop in Mbarara and also at the equator for a photo shot and some shopping of souvenirs as you may wish. This will also mark the end of our memorable and lifetime safari.
